Dr. Peter A. Singer is the Sun Life Financial Chair in Bioethics and Director of the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics and the Program Leader of the Canadian Program on Genomics and Global Health.
He directs the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto. He is also Professor of Medicine and practices Internal Medicine at Toronto Western Hospital.
He studied internal medicine at the University of Toronto, medical ethics at the University of Chicago, and clinical epidemiology at Yale University.A Canadian Institutes of Health Research Distinguished Investigator, he has published over 160 articles on bioethics, and holds over $16 million in research grants from US National Institutes of Health, Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, Genome Canada, Canadian Foundation for Innovation, and Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges for Global Health Initiative, the Committee on Advances in Technology and the Prevention of Their Application to Next Generation Biowarfare Agents of the US National Academy of Sciences, the Ethics Committee of the British Medical Journal, and a Director of The Change Foundation and Branksome Hall.
His contributions have included improvements in quality end of life care, fair priority setting in health care organizations, and teaching bioethics, and his current research focus is global health. Peter A. Singer, MD, MPH, FRCPC.
